Welcome to Pro-Exchange!
The primary goal of the Pro-Exchange user group is to be a central meeting point for all Unified Communications knowledge in Belgium. As user group, we are focused on IT professionals who are passionate about Microsoft Exchange Server and the other members of the Unified Communications portfolio, like Microsoft Office Communications Server. Pro-Exchange members share a document library filled with useful articles about anything concerning Unified Communications. Two very important aspects of Pro-Exchange are the forum where every member is able to ask questions and share ideas concerning Exchange & OCS, and the frequent events where Pro-Exchange members meet each other and exchange ideas. WE HAVE A BRAND NEW SITE NOW, PLEASE CHECK WWW.PROEXCHANGE.BE AND JOIN US THERE!!!! |

You want to do some custom DEV or OCS or Exchange?
GotUC.com has launched a Development Sandbox for you to use for FREE! This is what they have to say:
Today GotUC.net is proud to offer an opportunity for developers to start developing UC enabled applications, without having to overcome the hurdles of setting up Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Beta. If you join the GotUC.net Community and you promise to behave well, and know we have the right to revoke your account at any time, GotUC.net will offer you two user accounts in the GotUC.net domain: one personal account, and one account you can use to enable bot scenarios. The domain accounts are enabled for most UC capabilities Presence, IM, email and Exchange Web Services, and even some limited calling capabilities to the PSTN or to other Community users via Communicator. What do you need to do? Simply, just - - Join the GotUC Community
- Once you have joined our community you will see a new “Developer Sandbox” menu tab
- Click the tab and you will be taken to the registration site. Once there just click the Register button then fill in the form.
I can hear you asking “Sounds great Marshall but what are the limitations?” Well, I ‘m glad you asked. The limitations are really very simple also – - Please use your real name – this will be how you show up when you connect to GotUC.Net using Office Communicator. We want to present a positive image for those organizations that we federate with.
- We expect you to behave reasonably and to not abuse the system. Other members are using the system too and we don’t want anyone crashing the system for everybody.
No applications that would be considered illegal or not appropriate for the intended purpose of this site. We don’t want someone using the system for Trojans or spam.
Note: we reserve the right to cancel without warning any accounts that break the rules.

Virtualization support for OCS 2007 R2
Finally Microsoft Posted the official Whitpaper on OCS 2007 R2 & Virtualization. Before you jump in the air be aware that virtualization is limited to some workloads only ... (IM/Presense/Groupchat)
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 can be deployed onto Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, or onto any virtualization solution that is a certified partner through the Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP) certified partners for the following workloads: - Presence
- IM (including conferencing, remote access, federation, and Public IM Connectivity)
- Group Chat
This whitepaper: - Identifies which server roles are supported in a virtualized environment
- Provides guidance for scaling users and workloads in a virtualized environment
This document describes the results of a series of configurations that were run in a Hyper-V environment to validate that Office Communications Server on Hyper-V provides stable performance and scalability for production use.
You will also see information in the doc explaining why other workloads are hard to Virtualize:
Enterprise Voice, Remote Call Control (RCC), Response Group Service, dial-In conferencing, audio/video conferencing, Web conferencing, and Communicator Web Access desktop sharing workloads are not supported in a virtualized Office Communications Server 2007 R2 deployment. This occurs because of several factors, including packet loss, delay, jitter, and clock skew. These factors impact the quality and performance of real-time media when virtualized. However, these factors do not impact other workloads such as instant messaging and presence because these workloads are less susceptible to delay and can use the natural retry mechanisms in the SIP protocol and the underlying TCP transport. | Unable to connect to Exchange 2010 using Outlook 2007? |
Having installed Exchange 2010, and using Outlook Web Access for some time, I was surprised to get an error message when launching Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Sp1, and trying to connect to a mailbox on Exchange 2010.
Let's see. When launching Outlook 2007, I gave the needed information to connect to Exchange 2010:
And after clicking Next, everything seemed to be going like expected... but then the following error showed up:

Finally, Managing Exchange Certificates using the GUI :-)
Certificates and Exchange have always been a challenging topic. In Exchange 2007, it was a real endeavor to get the right certificates up and running, by using the Exchange Management Shell cmdlets Get-ExchangeCertificate, New-ExchangeCertificate, Import-ExchangeCerticate, Enable-ExchangeCertificate and so on. Not to mention the problems you could have if names were not as they were supposed to be...
In Exchange 2010, Microsoft has made an effort to include in the Exchange Management Console a very nice Exchange Certificate management interface, that allows you as an administrator to create a Certificate Requets using the GUI, import an Exchange Certifcicate, and enable an Exchange Certificate for any service of choice.
Let's have a look.
When you open the Exchange Management Console, and drill down to Server Configuration, select a server in the middle pane, and you will see in the bottom pane the list of Exchange Certificates available in the certificate store of that server.

OCS 2007 R2 Roadshow Recordings Available
Here are the recordings of the virtual sessions presented by our very own Ilse during the Readshow in Januari Unified Communications with Office Communications Server 2007 R2
Introduction: What is OCS? Positioning, business value Let’s start with a flashback on the history of Office Communications server (OCS) (LCS 2003, LCS 2005, LCS 2005 Sp1, OCS 2007) and Microsoft Unified Communications. After this short introduction, you will learn more about the power of those tools and why you should care about it.
Next-Generation Collaboration This first session focuses on “dial-in audio conferencing”, providing you with an on-premise audio conferencing bridge managed by IT as part of the overall communications infrastructure. You will also discover the “desktop sharing across platforms” possibilities (Windows, Macintosh & Linux), through a Web-based interface and the interest of “persistent group chat”, offering the ability to participate in topic-based discussions and even offline.
Unified Communications with Office Communications Server 2007 R2 – Part I (Dutch) : Unified Communications with Office Communications Server 2007 R2 – Part I (French) : Enhanced Voice and Mobility This session will introduce to you the “Attendant console and delegation”, enabling receptionist, and others to manage calls and conferences. Then we will have a close look at the “Initiation Protocol Trunking”, thereby reducing costs by enabling business to setup a direct VoIP connection between an Internet telephony service provider and OCS. You will also learn more about “Mobility and single-number reach”, allowing users to communicate using presence, IM and voice as an extension of their PBX from a unified client and get a view on “Response Group” which provides a simple-to-use basic engine for call treatment, routing and queuing.
Architecture OCS 2007 R2 During this part of the presentation we will discuss the OCS 2007 R2 topology and the different hardware and software requirements

Who is MicrosoftExchange329e71ec88ae4615bbc36ab6ce41109e?
Imagine you have an Exchange 2007 Sp1 environment, and you have just updated every Exchange server with RU7, and then you notice that when internal people receive a system-generated message, they don't seem to be sent anymore by Microsoft Exchange, but by a user called MicrosoftExchange329e71ec88ae4615bbc36ab6ce41109e?
Prior to RU7, any system-generated message delivered to internal users (like journal reports, quota messages, and delivery status notifications) would look like this:
And after deploying RU7, it looks like this: Here's the official response from Microsoft regarding this issue:

The Exchange Web Services Managed API is available :-)
It seems it has taken quite some time, but, the wiat is over, the Exchange Web Services Managed API is available for download now :-)
It's still a beta version, but it's there! Here's how Microsoft describes it: "The Microsoft Exchange Web Services (EWS) Managed API 1.0 Beta provides a managed interface for developing client applications that use Exchange Web Services. The EWS Managed API simplifies the implementation of applications that communicate with Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and later versions of Microsoft Exchange. Built on the Exchange Web Services SOAP protocol and Autodiscover, the EWS Managed API provides a .NET interface to EWS that is easy to learn, use, and maintain."

Exchange 2010 Feature Summary
Hi fellow IT-Pro's,
The last couple of days I was attending Interact 2009 and totally loved it. The level of interaction was great, in fact we got no powerpoint presentation at all !! ;-). Have a look at Eileen’s blog posting on Interact 2009 http://blogs.technet.com/eileen_brown/archive/2009/04/15/interact-2009-and-exchange-2010.aspx While we were attending we also got the green light to start blogging about the new features available in Exchange 2010 and some of the things that will no longer be with us (such as SCC).
This posting is meant to be a first high level overview of what most likely is already blogged intensively over the internet at the moment...
1) Forget about CCR and SCR and think Database Availability Group... DAG is the new way of doing HA and DR. Deploying DAG is easier than ever as it will deploy the necessary Windows Clustering components for you. Also you can now get up to 16 replica’s of your mailbox database and the failover granularity is now on Database level instead of Server level. Have a look here for more information http://www.exchange-genie.com/2009/04/database-availability-group-dag-exchange-2010/
2) Considering the investments done in DAG with the reduced storage requirements (DAS, Raid less Storage so JBOD’s) and replication support they removed support for Single Copy Clusters (SCC) which typically depended on implementing a storage level replication to provide for site resilient solutions.
3) No more storage groups, it’s all Database now..
4) Exchange Clusters support other roles now, so you run Hub Transport and Client Access server on the cluster.. This will get you that consolidation story without sacrificing redundancy.
5) Exchange Unified Messaging supports up to 30 languages now for OVA, so it’s no longer only English but you take talk in Dutch or French as well to the server.
6) Exchange Unified Messaging now also provide speech to text capabilities...When you look at your voicemail once received in Outlook you get a summary of it in “text”.. which makes your voicemail searchable
7) Exchange 2010 now provides an archiving solution where you can move your PST into the mailbox, set retention policies and allow for cross-mailbox searches using a web-interface.
8) Thanks to some more improvements in the ESE engine you get an additional 50% IO reduction in Exchange 2010, combined with the storage reductions from Exchange 2007 (which was 70%) you get a whopping 85% IO reduction from Exchange 2003 (if my calculation are right ;-)
9) Outlook Web Access now fully supports Firefox and Safari in Premium mode which is just great as I use OWA and Firefox very regularly…
10) Outlook Web Access provides conversation views which will condenses your emails by threads.
11) Mailtips is also a great new feature which provides instant feedback on the email you’re about the send before you submitted it. Imagine you’re sending an email to someone who is OOF, instead of submitting the email you get notified upfront that the user is not in the office. Other tips are when you are sending to a Distribution list and it contains an external contact or the user’s mailbox receive quota has been reached etc..
12) Windows Server 2003 is not supported for Exchange 2010, so start looking at providing a foundation for your Windows 2008 servers
13) Powershell V2 support with remoting capabilities.
14) Exchange now provides Role Based Access Control (RBAC) which allows you to provide for VERY granular control of what your operational teams are allowed to execute
15) Users can now manage some things themselves through a Control Panel in Outlook Web Access. For example creating distribution lists, managing members of it etc..
And there is much more like integration with the MSOnline allowing you to host some mailboxes on premise and some in the “cloud”.
If you have any feedback question or see issues please let us know in the forums.
Let's learn and continue to interact !!!
Greetings, Tonino Bruno

Exchange 2010 Beta Available
Byebye E14, and welcome Exchange 2010 :-)
As blogged by David Strome:
"Exchange 2010 Beta bits, get em while they're hot!
Exchange 2010 is available now for download. We've worked for two and a half years to create the most advanced e-mail system available. There are dozens of new features in every area of the product - and entirely new feature areas that are just plain cool - mailbox, high availability and resiliency, compliance, permissions, end-user self-management, distribution group self-management...the list can go on and on.
You can learn about all the new features of Exchange 2010 on the What's New page.
Finally, check out the documentation we've put together for you. It's a beta, so content is still being written. Please make use of the feedback button and tell us what you think of the docs. The beta is as much about getting the documentation right as it is about getting the code right. We need your feedback!
Over the next while I'll be posting more about Exchange 2010 in general but specifically about my feature areas - Role Based Access Control - the new, highly flexible and extremely powerful permissions model in Exchange 2010, and the Exchange Management Shell - the command line interface first introduced in Exchange 2007. We've made some pretty interesting changes to the shell infrastructure that you should find interesting.
Now get going and get downloading! :)"
Happy E14-E2010 :-)
